Message from Provost Cyril Clarke: Support for our Ukrainian Faculty and Academic Community
March 2, 2022
Dear colleagues,
The scenes of devastation and despair in Ukraine this past week have been truly heartbreaking and have affected people around the world, including academic colleagues here at Virginia Tech. This tragic situation continues to have a profound impact on their families and the places they call home. In the midst of this crisis and the enormous weight of uncertainty in their homeland, our colleagues and their fellow Ukrainians are showing amazing courage, unity, and personal resolve.
As you demonstrate compassion, empathy, and support for those affected by this conflict, I encourage you also to guide them to information and resources that can help them manage the emotional burden they are carrying. In addition, we should also take time to connect with, listen to, and advocate for those who may be struggling to cope with their individual circumstances.
Please join me in standing with our affected faculty, staff, and students who are dealing with extraordinary challenges and concerns, and in offering them our steadfast support as they cope with a humanitarian crisis affecting their families and communities in Ukraine.
Cyril
