End-of-Year Message from Provost Cyril Clarke and Faculty Senate President Rachel Miles
May 15, 2025
Dear colleagues,
With the close of the 2024-25 academic year and the celebration of our newest graduating class, we want to extend our sincere appreciation and admiration for your extraordinary work, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our university mission. We are especially grateful for your partnership throughout this past year and the open and thoughtful dialogue that many of you have engaged in to ensure that our campus remains a diverse and dynamic community where everyone can thrive.
To say the past few months have been challenging is an understatement. Your strength of scholarship and mentorship, and dedication to the tenets of our land grant mission are matched only by your dedicated support and advocacy for our campus community in the face of uncertainty and an ever-changing landscape. Through your efforts and engagement, you continue to move Virginia Tech forward in ways that will assure a bright future.
Please know that the work you do, the impact you have, and the critical role you play in achieving our strategic goals and priorities is truly invaluable and a foundational element of our success. Your voices and contributions continue to be instrumental in shaping our path forward, and your support for academic freedom and freedom of expression across the institution has reaffirmed our commitment to creating an environment where both faculty and students can explore and discuss ideas freely and responsibly.
As we move through the summer, the Provost’s Office in partnership with the Faculty Senate and other university leadership bodies will continue to share information and updates and provide resources for navigating the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Thank you once again for your partnership and support in the advancement of Virginia Tech’s teaching, research, and service mission. We hope you will use the summer to enjoy time with family and friends and to reflect on your achievements.
Cyril Clarke, Executive Vice President and Provost
Rachel Miles, Faculty Senate President
