Spring Break Holiday: Friday, February 5

February 2, 2021

Department heads,

The personal wellbeing of our students and their ability to be successful in their studies is a shared commitment of our faculty, department/unit heads and university leaders. As we approach the first spring break day on Friday (February 5), please remind faculty of the importance of preserving this as a non-instructional day in accordance with the university’s official academic calendar.

There should be no class meetings, assignments due, nor exams administered this Friday or on the other designated spring break holidays (February 25, March 17, April 6, and April 26). It is also requested that your faculty do their best to avoid assignment due dates and scheduling of exams on instructional days immediately following one of these spring break holidays. Students should not feel obligated to spend these spring break days studying or completing course requirements.

Our students need the opportunity to use these distributed spring break days to rest, recalibrate, and enjoy time apart from their academic studies. Faculty are also encouraged to use this time to take a break from instructional duties if they are able to do so.

Thank you for sharing this information with your faculty and for your partnership in ensuring students have a successful spring semester.
