University Libraries: Guidance for faculty on citing AI generated content in research, scholarship

University Libraries experts have compiled information and guidance for faculty about citing AI-generated material in scholarship and research.

As generative AI tools become more widely used, major citation styles are developing guidance on how to credit AI-generated materials properly. The following library guides will help researchers and scholars in navigating this landscape.

For more information, read this campus notice. If you have questions or need more in-depth help, email the University Libraries' AI support group.

CETL: Call for proposals for 2025-26 Faculty Teaching Group Grant

The Faculty Teaching Group Grant program, administered through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), supports Virginia Tech faculty members who would like to explore a topic related to higher education teaching and learning in a small and interactive learning community.

The primary goals of this grant program are to encourage:

  • faculty members to form collaborative support networks within or outside of their home departments and colleges at Virginia Tech, and
  • exploration and discovery related to teaching and learning in higher ed.

Faculty Teaching Groups will receive a grant of up to $2,000 toward their proposed goals with approximately five grants being funded for 2025-26. Proposals must be submitted using the online proposal submission form before September 1.

For more information, read this campus notice or visit the Faculty Teaching Group Grant webpage. If you have additional questions, email CETL.

Faculty Affairs: Gather to write in community during summer writing retreat

The Office of Faculty Affairs invites faculty to join colleagues across the university for a summer writing retreat, August 13-15 at Rising Silo Farm and Brewery in Blacksburg. All Virginia Tech instructional faculty are welcome to participate.

During the three-day retreat, attendees will gather in community and learn about the many writing nooks on and around campus, enjoy some snacks and beverages, and companionship, and just write. Each morning will be facilitated by resident faculty experts who will offer short workshops and optional consultations.

Registration will remain open until June 27. Faculty may register for one, two, or all three days of the retreat. Due to high demand and limited space, faculty are asked to commit to attend any days for which they register.

For more information, read this campus notice, visit the Faculty Writing Retreats webpage, or email Catherine Piché in Faculty Affairs.

Division of Facilities: Summer traffic, pedestrian impacts due to campus construction projects

As a result of numerous summer capital construction, renovation, and maintenance projects on the Blacksburg campus, the Division of Facilities reminds faculty and staff to expect periodic road and pedestrian route closures and traffic delays in limited areas of the campus through August.

Below is a list of recently announced projects and areas where traffic and pedestrian impacts may occur. Please check below to see if your route or building is affected.

For more information and an interactive map of impacted areas, read the campus notices in VT News for each impacted area or email Virginia Tech Facilities.

ICYMI: Honorific awards program supports, facilitates recognition of faculty achievement

The Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science (ICTAS) is home to Virginia Tech’s honorific awards program that supports and facilitates external and university award recognition for university faculty.

As part of its mission to advance research and scholarship at Virginia Tech, ICTAS facilitates faculty awards through:

  • Maintaining updated lists of available awards and application requirements.
  • Using data to strategically identify and evaluate promising opportunities.
  • Curating resources that may be useful to faculty.
  • Working as a liaison to faculty to support nominations and submissions on a case-by-case basis.

Deans, department heads, and program faculty are encouraged to review the awards information and nominate faculty and colleagues.

For more information, visit ICTAS' honorific awards program website. Additional information about external awards support and resources are available on the Faculty Affairs and Research and Innovation websites.
