Research and Innovation: Engaging with Industry to Develop Partnerships

In today’s rapidly evolving and interconnected world, the collaboration between researchers and industry is increasingly valuable for driving innovation, maximizing the impact of research, and solving real-world problems.

As part of its Research Development Series, the Office of Research and Innovationwill host members of Virginia Tech’s LINK+LICENSE+LAUNCH for a seminar titled, “Engaging with Industry to Develop Partnerships.” The LINK+LICENSE+LAUNCH team will provide an overview of the resources available to support researchers from discovery to market. Additionally, Virginia Tech faculty will share examples of successful industry collaborations and lessons learned.

Faculty are invited to attend this seminar on September 28 from 1:00–2:30 p.m. at the North End Center, Room 2420 or virtually via Zoom. The event is free, but registration for either in-person or Zoom attendance is required.

For more information and to register for this seminar, read this campus notice or visit the Office of Research and Innovation’s events webpage.

CPD: Create student internship, experiential learning opportunities with Campus internEXP

If you’re a department or faculty member who currently hires interns, would like to turn a student wage position into an internship, or would like to hire an intern but don’t know how to get started, CPD invites you to register for an information session to learn more about Campus internEXP (Campus Intern Experience), Virginia Tech’s program for undergraduate students designed to support efforts to provide bridge experiential learning opportunities on our campus.

Through Campus internEXP, CPD hopes to connect students with the variety of job functions and amazing professionals that work here on campus to provide quality internship and active learning experiences.

The application deadline to host an intern for Spring 2024 is Friday, September 29.

For more information, read this campus notice. If you have questions, cannot attend an information session, or would prefer to meet one-on-one, email Julia Ward, assistant director for Professional Development and Experiential Programs.

SSD: Accommodation requests have new online portal for faculty, students

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) has launched the Accessible Information Management (AIM) portal, a new online system for students and for instructors to see and manage information related to classroom accommodations.

The AIM portal allows:

  • Students to request initial accommodation or see current accommodations
  • Students already connected with SSD to request their digital course accessibility letter (formerly called accommodations letter)
  • Faculty and instructors to review student accommodations requested for each of their courses and to acknowledge receipt for each student’s request

The AIM website has background and guidance for students, instructors, and departments; links to details about how to use the system; and highlights of processes that have changed. SSD provides video playlists with guides to common accommodations steps for students and for instructors.

For more information, read this campus notice or visit the AIM website.
