The Virginia Tech Future Faculty Development Program is an exciting and rewarding two day event for a small group of doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars interested in pursuing academic careers.

The 2017 Future Faculty program was held from January 9-12 at Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus, providing participants with the opportunity to hear presentations and have candid discussions with department heads, deans, and current faculty members about faculty life and the range of responsibilities of faculty in learning, discovery, and engagement.

Participants were hosted by a Virginia Tech department to tour research facilities, meet with current faculty to gain a greater awareness of research and teaching opportunities, and discuss their career prospects and academic work.

Enhance the faculty pipeline by establishing and developing significant meaningful relationships with prospects, especially those from groups underrepresented in the professoriate, such as minorities and women.

Provide the opportunity for participants to gain a greater awareness of Virginia Tech, which will enhance their ability to envision themselves as members of our community.

Develop a network of new scholars in priority research areas.

Be a graduate student or post-doctoral scholar within one year of seeking a faculty position at a research intensive institution,

Demonstrate career goals, research interests, and academic potential that align with Virginia Tech's mission and programs, and

Able to meaningfully contribute to the university's continuing commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence.

The 2017 Future Faculty Development Program was held January 9-12 at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.

Nominations to the program are solicited in the summer, and applications are due each fall.  Please check back regularly to this website for information about applying once the program's deadlines are finalized for the coming year.
